The Da Vinci Code Fantasy, Fact or Fraud?
The Da Vinci Code is a mystery/detective novel authored by Dan Brown in 2003. It was a smash hit, even rivaling the sales of the highly popular Harry Potter series. Spawning a number of offspring books, it drew glowing reviews from The New York Times, People Magazine and The Washington Post. It also provoked popular interest in speculation concerning the Holy Grail legend and the role of Mary Magdalene in the history of Christianity. According to the premise of the novel, the Vatican knows it is perpetuating a lie about Jesus’ bloodline and the role of women in church, but continues to do so to keep itself in power. Even though written as a novel, religious conspiracy theorists have accepted the book’s premise as fact, provoking a massive controversy. Many supporters of the Catholic Church see the book as a serious attack and have branded it heretical.
If you’d like to know more about this runaway bestseller, the controversy surrounding it and/or the Catholic Church’s position, join us when our guest speaker will be Professor Matthew Hill of University of Detroit High School. Hill will expose what he claims is the sloppy research, misleading evidence and outright fabrications in Brown’s book.
Even if you’re not familiar with the book or movie, come and learn what all the fuss is about!
